Outstanding Contribution to the Arts

In the Senior School there are annual awards for ‘Outstanding Contributions to the Arts’ (OCAs). Each Arts subject nominates 1 or 2 students from every year group that go above-and-beyond - showing great commitment and talent outside of the Arts curriculum. We would like to congratulate the following students on being shortlisted for the award. Throughout the year, they have stood out as going the extra mile and displaying great passion and dedication towards the Arts. They are great role models for their peers and we look forward to hearing great things from them in the future!

 James Gardner

James has a wonderful ability to draw and is always hugely engaged and enthusiastic. James always strives to create, and draws constantly. He actively seeks ways to practice creating, joining art CCA’s, working in the art studio’s whenever possible. Well done James, keep creating.  

Nishka Chokani

Music

Nishka is a talented percussionist, pianist and singer who has fully involved herself in the Senior Music Department. Her enthusiasm is always evident in rehearsals and performances and she has made excellent progress throughout Year 7.

 

 Darcey Higgins

Drama

We were absolutely blown away by Darcey’s performance in the KS3 production of “Rabbit”. The youngest in the cast and yet she was courageous in her approach, demonstrating skills well beyond her age. A promising actor who is fun to work with and humble too!

 

Kai Milla Karunanithi

Art

Kai Milla is a dedicated artist, she is incredibly enthusiastic and shares her creative ideas with everyone. Kai Milla has attended sewing Club CCA and is always eager to learn new skills in and creative ways to stitch. Well done Kai Milla. 

 

Lilia Frizberg

Lilia is an extremely gifted artist. Constantly working on inspiring art projects out of the classroom. It’s great to see a student this age working so independently, well done.

 

Matthew Huang

Music

Mathew is a very talented musician who is heavily involved in the music CCA program. He has performed regularly this year with the Year 7 ensemble, Senior Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra while also performing in the Tanglin Trust Recital Evening and Senior Young Musician concert. 

 

Saahil Baya

Drama

Amazing performance in No Regrets- and throughout the rehearsal period. A brilliant, committed and enthusiastic actor. Saahil is a promising actor who takes risks to experiment and explore ideas during the creative process. He has a brilliant repertoire of accents, is a wonderful spontaneous improviser and is particularly smart and quick witted.

Jesse Collins

Music

Jesse has continued to make superb progress with his Classical and Jazz Piano playing and has also spent more time developing his ensemble and composing skills during Year 8. He was a joint winner of the Senior Young Musician competition 2020

 

Rohan Sarma

Rohan loves drama and everything attached to it. He gives as much energy on stage as he does in class. He is kind and committed to members of his ensemble and he works tirelessly to get things right. To cap it off, he is talented, funny and just a generally good person. We are lucky to have Rohan involved in our CCA’s.

 

Elena Robertson

Drama

Elena was truly  impressive throughout the rehearsal process for No Regrets- calm, committed and enthusiastic. She took direction beautifully and was a key member of the ensemble giving her all during every rehearsal. We look forward to seeing her future performances in Drama.

 

Olivia Moremont

Music

Olivia is a very talented musician and dancer, and she shows a willingness to get involved in anything and everything. Not only is she a highly valued member of Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Orchestra and her band, she has also become a “go to” singer for any IGCSE and IB singers wanting to perform choir pieces for their coursework. Olivia also showed a huge commitment towards the dance show to ensure her dances were polished and as best as they could be! She was always willing to help out others if needed and always did so with a smile on her face.

Eva Crawshaw

Eva Crawshaw has shown her outstanding contribution to dance many times. We were particularly impressed with the commitment and leadership she showed during the dance show. Not only did she dance beautifully and seemingly effortlessly in the show, she also exemplified brilliant leadership qualities as a Dance Capitan throughout the entire process. She choreographed several dances, taught them to others, and showed an astounding level of commitment on the night, when she came straight from a competition to the show, and performed her heart out. Eva also showed leadership qualities in drama by leading rehearsals for No Regrets and worked with her Heaven group to achieve a beautiful performance. We are so proud of her and grateful to all that she does.

 

Jamie Ford

Since Yr7, Jamie has continued to actively and creatively contribute in our Drama productions. This year he was outstanding in the KS3 production of “Rabbit”, leading by example and taking risks to boldly communicate his role. He then moved on to No Regrets taking a lead role with his hospital scene monologue performance. Jamie is always a key member of the ensemble and this year it has been lovely to see him push himself to the front and challenge himself. He is always committed, kind and generous to work with.

 

Alice Butler

Alice has been extremely active out of class this year, sketching, constructing and thinking about all things creative. She is extremely interested in the Arts and is eager to further her skills in this area. Well done Alice.

 

Jack Eales

Jack constantly challenges himself to work on more advanced Design and Technology projects. He has shown significant talent and an eagerness to learn a wide range of skills in Design and Technology from 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design to more traditional manufacturing processes. He actively seeks out to design and make a range of personal projects, independently enhancing his practical and theoretical knowledge of our subject. 

 

Kavya Maheshwari

Drama

Kavya led the Heaven group for No Regrets. She has been consistently excellent throughout rehearsals, creating new work and generously working with the Heaven group to achieve a beautiful performance. She has been a stalwart of Drama throughout the last few years and it is time that she received recognition for her hard work.

 

Lily Hatton-Burke

Lily has impressed me with her enthusiasm and perseverance to do well. She has been eager to start the GCSE course for some time, and her diligence and motivation will serve her well. She is an active ‘creator’ outside the classroom, continuously sketching at home, improving her skills and refining her ideas. Well done Lilly!

Sienna Wheeler

Music

Sienna is an extremely humble but very talented  musician who has made a significant contribution to the Senior Music Department. She sings with the Senior Choir and Chamber Choir, plays flute in Orchestra and Afro-Latin Band and also sings with one of the Senior Bands. Her outstanding effort and enthusiasm are a real credit to her.

 

Xiao Leng

Music

Xiao is a talented musician who has continued to develop and improve this year. He regularly performs with Orchestra and chamber orchestra in high profile events in the school community. This year he has challenged himself by getting Involved in two bands and performing regularly to a high standard at Senior Band events. 

 

Year 10 Nominees

Dominique Webb

Music

Dominique has made an exceptional contribution to Music at Tanglin. She is an inspiration and excellent role model to  other students, and spends many hours every week rehearsing with the various ensembles she participates in, as well as practising with her own band. In addition, she has performed solos on multiple occasions (often high profile) and is always willing to step in at the last minute and perform with her band. As well as this, she has helped a number of IGCSE and IB students with their coursework. We are very lucky to have such a talented and enthusiastic student.

 

Giuliano Merito

Giuliano is a very talented drummer who performs regularly with Big Band and various Rock groups in school. He rocked-out with staff in the main band for our Senior production “We Will Rock You’ which is an amazing achievement for someone his age and he displayed great determination and commitment. He is always willing to help his fellow musicians if needed to play drums in the studio or at a live-performance. He is a Superstar!!!

 

Anusha Baliga

Anusha’s commitment and skill at drama has grown tremendously not least because of her absolute commitment to the ensemble and her generous approach to work. She throws herself into any and all roles regardless of size. She is cooperative, focused and hardworking. We absolutely recognise Anusha for this award as a shining example of what it means to be a team player. She is awesome!

 

Dorothy Li

Art

Dorothy is an incredibly mature artist. Her skills with paint and digital work are complex and refined. She is continuously working outside the classroom. She brought her sketchbook on the Chang Mai trip- and was seen sketching at every possible moment. She often sends me her digital works which are illustrative in quality and quite surreal in context. Excellent commitment to the Arts.

 

Georgina Torok

Although Gina hasn’t been on the course for very long, she was so strong throughout Y9 and is a natural designer and maker. It is such a pleasure to have pupils that like to challenge themselves.

 

Henry de Rham

Drama

Henry is always keen to get involved with the Drama CCAs and this year was no different. His versatility as an actor is outstanding. He is a pleasure to direct, takes on all directing notes given and strives to perfect and refine his performance work. He is a wonderful risk taker and ensemble player. A creative, talented and highly respected member of the ensemble!

 

William Hall

Will demonstrates high levels of engagement in Design and Technology by tackling lesson tasks and practical projects with a passion and willingness to go beyond expectations. He attends extra lunchtime workshop sessions, solely focusing on improving the quality of his design work and product outcomes. Will is an inspiring student and his positive approach to facing every and any challenge is commendable.

Anika Kyrdalen

Anika has been excellent in D&T for the last 3 years. She has a genuine passion for designing, making and learning new skills. She has been extremely committed to the GCSE course and always considers the needs of others in her design work. Anika’s passion has continued outside of lesson time, making projects for staff and family members.

 

Eleanor Lever

Eleanor remains a committed part of the Drama CCA program despite the demands of Year 11. Her work in the Christmas Carol was outstanding. She is an accomplished performer and demonstrated  outstanding technical skill in her approach to her character. In addition she is a valuable and generous member of the ensemble, where she is as comfortable in leading as she is in supporting work. 

 

Abigail Collins

Music

Abigail is a highly talented musician and has made a significant impact on the Senior Music Department. She is a valued member of the Chamber Choir and Senior Choir, and it is a credit to her that she continued her regular participation even as IGCSEs were looming. She has performed solos to high acclaim on many occasions both in and out of school, and has been involved in pretty much all of our events and competitions. Her willingness to get involved and her enthusiasm for all things musical is a real credit to her!

 

Angus Andrew

Music

Angus is a talented musician who loves performing and does so regularly with Big Band and various Rock groups in school. He is always willing to help others out if a musician is needed for recordings or choir performances and done so enthusiastically on many occasions. He also performs regularly as a singer-songwriter and played in our recent ‘Senior School Acoustic Sessions”.

 

Ethan Jones

Ethan has shown such a great attitude since he joined the GCSE course. He can work well as a designer when tackling projects independently as  well as in a group. I really look forward to seeing how he progresses at A level.

 

Jeremy Nanayakkara

Drama

Jeremy strives for excellence in everything he does. He is meticulous when developing characters, and like a detective he researches and trails ideas to delve deep into character motives and mindsets. He has a flair for comedy and also for classics, and his monologue portraying Creon from Antigone by Sophocles, was faultless. Jeremy is confident, charismatic and exudes stage presence when performing and yet staff and students alike know that this reflects painstaking work and thought ‘behind the scenes’. A role model student, Jeremy also gives up his time to watch and support his peers and other year groups, providing valuable and insightful feedback, particular with examination classes. The Drama Department is thankful for his dedication and contributions to the Drama CCA program and we look forward to seeing more of Jeremy’s work next year as he embarks on IB Theatre.

Ella Shaw

Ella is a highly motivated filmmaker who has used her advanced technical skills in colour grading and editing to create work that has promoted many events across the school. Her contributions to the wider school community have included filming and editing interviews with outside speakers, members of staff and students, covering topics from sports, to arts and Support in the Community projects. She can often be found working late on projects and is a wonderful example of a student who gives her time freely and enthusiastically.

 

Heddwen Campbell

Heddwen gave outstanding contributions during the Laos Residential Art Trip in September 2019. She displayed mature communication skills, energy and enthusiasm at all times. Her interactions with the village community were always sensitive and respectful. She was/is a consistent inspiration to others. 

 

Cher Chan

Music

Cher is an amazing singer who does so much for the Music Department. She is a committed member of Choir, Six of One, and performed at many Christmas carolling venues with the Chamber Choir, regularly volunteering for solo’s. She also performs with the Senior Big band and countless Rock Groups in and out of school, as well as being a Singer-songwriter. Cher has a huge talent and enthusiasm for performing that makes her a great role-model for her peers. 

 

Cristian Victoria

Cristian has such a wonderful energy and really takes risks in performance. Despite the pressure of starting the IB course he performed in ‘A Christmas Carol’ and was such an asset to the production. His commitment, focus and supportive nature shone through. A creative, talented and kind student!

 

Imogen Bowyer

An utterly outstanding Arts student. Imogen has been involved in a range of activities - the ‘piano’ project at the WellBean cafe’ and most recently she was a very strong contender in the ARTiculation a Prize with an outstanding speech about John Singer Sargent. Imogen’s intellect supports her practical work beautifully and she has a clear understanding of Arts function and purpose within the society which it was created.

 

Hana Holmes

Despite the pressure of starting Year 12 A Level course. Hana took on the lead role in ‘A Christmas Carol’ and was outstanding, both in performance and commitment. She is a real risk taker and  is such an asset to any ensemble. Her energy and passion shine through and is a wonderful role model for the younger students.

 

Reuben Blohm

Film

Reuben is an outstanding talent who has produced a number of imaginative and technically accomplished films this year. His contributions to the CAS TVprogramme have been exemplary, his short films celebrating and showcasing the talents and commitment of students across the school who participate in arts and community based programmes. He is an accomplished graphic artist, a free thinker and a gifted and original creative force. 

 

Sean Nelson

Music

Sean is an extremely talented Violinist who is so enthusiastic and always willing to help. He has accompanied numerous choir performances, supported Y11 coursework recordings, volunteered to be a student mentor and is a valued member of the Chamber Orchestra. He is also a talented drummer who has supported his IB class and other ensemble performances with his percussion skills.

Ingrid Kinder

Ingrid is the embodiment of creativity and kindness at Tanglin. Her work ethic is faultless as she takes every care to make sure that those in her ensemble feel supported and happy. Her creativity is diverse and spans most of the creative arts,  where she commits as much effort and energy to singing as she does sewing, acting or dancing. Ingrid has worked tirelessly in support of whole school performance and deserves this award wholeheartedly. 

 

Roisin Dunne

Roisin is such an asset to the Drama and Dance community of the school and we are really going to miss her next year! She is a hugely generous, creative and organised student. After leading the choreography for WWRY last year, Roisin saw a gap in Tanglin provision for Senior School students and decided to provide an opportunity herself in the form of the dance showcase. She worked tirelessly to pull the show together and encouraged students from every year in the senior school to get involved. 

 

Alex Morris

Music

Despite a very busy Year 13 schedule, Alex has continued to make an excellent contribution to Senior Big Band. His trumpet playing has become more fluent and his skills as an improviser and Jazz player have made big leaps and bounds. He also gave a tremendous performance at the TTS Recital Evening this year.

 

Amelia Rushworth

Amelia has been involved in many arts initiatives and programmes across the school and in the wider community. She is not only passionate about film, but also dance and drama. She is an excellent director and producer, able to organise and inspire groups of students to work collaboratively towards a creative goal. She is also wise beyond her years, has a wonderfully dry sense of humour and is inspiring to be around. 

 

Antonella Kleeman

CAS D&T - Excellent effort in the ‘Creative’ CAS element through Design & Technology. Consistent approach to new skills in both CAD/CAM and workshop activities. Eshaan Mehta

Art

Eshaan set-up a student-led Design group that takes on live commissions within our local community. As well as producing a wealth of digital design work for clients, he has also co-ordinated the production of work within a growing Sixth Form team. His enthusiasm for design and leadership has been made evident throughout this project, highlighting an outstanding level of competence. He has grown so much since his GCSE and he will leave a legacy that will live on in his absence. We are so proud of him.

 

Finn Lawton

Music

Finn has made an excellent contribution to the Senior Music Dept in Year 13 and all her other years in the Senior School. She has been involved in the Senior Jazz programme for many years and her saxophone playing has grown from strength to strength. Despite a busy Year 13 schedule she has always prioritized and made time for contributing to Senior Music.

Shivam Pota

Film

Shivam is, without doubt, the heart and soul of the media technology area. His passion for film is boundless and his commitment to the arts has been evidenced by participation in many, many arts-focused extracurricular projects and activities. He runs his own film vlog and has interviewed a number of leading industry professionals. He was chosen to be a student journalist at the Singapore Film Festival and he has established strong links with the wider Singapore drama and arts community, many of whom have collaborated with him on film projects. 

 

Sophia Garvey

Art

Sophia lives, breathes and bathes in creativity. She thinks like a true artist - bouncing between artworks, with 5 sketchbooks on the go at one time. She has torn-up her work, makes better work, and even wanted to use Art to initiate a ‘riot’ at school! She has impressed us with her clear intentions in her work and her commitment to carry them out. She also has been an absolute scream to work with - we have enjoyed every second. I think we will see her name in lights in the future..
