Antoine Marie Joseph Artaud (1896 - 1948) is better known as Antonin Artaud.  He was a French playwright, poet, actor and theatre director.  Artaud was a theoritician of the Surrelist movement and he tried to replace "bourgois" classical theatre with is "theatre of cruelty", a primitive ceremonial experience which intended to liberate the human subconscious and reveal man to himself.
