Frida Kahlo (Spanish Art Evening 2012): Self Portraits

Resources about Frida Kahlo, compiled by your Librarians

Self Portraits

Of Kahlo's 143 paintings, 55 are self portraits.

Kahlo seriously injured her back and broke several bones in a terrible accident in 1925.  She had to spend many months in bed and her self portraits became a dominant part of her life.  A large mirror was hung over her bed to help her paint pictures of herself.
